What started life as a 1997 Audi A4 has been transformed into a serious competition machine. The cabin has been stripped and caged, the drivetrain substantially reworked, the engine rebuilt, the transmission replaced with an Audi 01E close-ratio unit, and the suspension and braking systems upgraded.

More importantly, it is incredibly fun.

DOCUMENTED ENGINE BUILD

The engine underwent a documented teardown and rebuild by Mtech Automotive Consulting, including removal, disassembly, inspection, machine-shop work and reassembly.

Documented equipment/work includes:

 Mahle Motorsport 1.8L piston set
 Walbro 450 fuel pump
 Cleaned injectors
 Timing belt components
 Water pump
Engine gaskets and related rebuild components
 034 standalone engine management
 Aftermarket turbocharger
 APR exhaust manifold
 Custom exhaust

The paperwork describes the turbo size as unknown, so we aren't going to invent a turbo specification or horsepower number.

The engine bay also contains a Carbonio carbon-fiber intake/airbox and extensive competition-oriented heat management and plumbing.

DRIVETRAIN & CHASSIS

The transmission is documented separately by Advanced Automotion and includes an Audi 01E close-ratio gearbox, transmission brackets and shift assembly. Additional service documentation describes the conversion as utilizing an LSD.

The build also documents upgraded front and rear sway bars and an aftermarket front braking arrangement.

THE COCKPIT

This is where #339 gets really special.

You climb into an OMP HTE-R 400 competition seat, secure the competition harness, and find yourself surrounded by a substantial roll cage, exposed bodywork, auxiliary gauges, dedicated electrical controls, ignition/start switchgear and diamond-plate driver flooring.

A MOMO Corse suede competition steering wheel is included, and the car also incorporates a Fresh Air Systems / Radio Racing ventilation arrangement.

A new windshield has recently been installed.

WHY I LIKE IT

Starting this Audi is an experience by itself.

There is a procedure. You settle into the seat, tighten the harness, work through the switches, arm the ignition and bring the car to life.

Then you understand why someone went to all this trouble.

You hear the turbo building boost, followed by the unmistakable release when you come off throttle. The chassis feels planted and glued to the road, the upgraded brakes feel serious, and the entire car has an immediacy that modern performance cars often filter away.

There is very little pretense here. You are operating machinery, and the car expects you to participate.

CAR #339

The exterior wears white competition bodywork with black and red graphics, #339 door identification, hood pins, front tow hardware, modified front fascia, lower aero treatment, competition-style multi-spoke wheels and Bridgestone tires.

It isn't cosmetically pretending to be a race car. The exposed hardware, stripped cabin, cage, switchgear and mechanical modifications tell you exactly what its purpose has been.

And that's why we love it.

This isn't about having the newest car, the biggest touchscreen or even the largest horsepower number.

It's about strapping yourself into an old Audi, flipping switches, hearing a rebuilt turbo engine come alive and remembering just how much fun a genuinely mechanical car can be.

Build and service documentation available for review.

Specialized competition vehicle. Prospective buyers should review the car's preparation and suitability for their intended motorsport use.

1997 Audi A4 Competition Rally

1986 Mazda RX7 rallycross car
This 1986 RX7 was built as a road race car in Alaska about 20 years ago, then it was relocated to El Paso Texas where it was transformed into an autocross car. The front half of the Autopower roll cage was removed along with a lot of other weight reduction. I bought it from a friend in 2019 intending on running hill climbs around Washington the next year, but then 2020 happened. I took the autocross parts off and prepped it for Modified RWD Rallycross, which is a lot more fun anyway. Car has been stored inside and is in great condition, and has seen almost zero street use over the last 10 years or so.

Car weighed 2080 with heavy street wheels on it before the Rallycross conversion. Rally tires are heavy too and I had to add a few things, but Id guess it still weighs around 2100 ish.

Ran it at NWRAs Rallycross Fest in 2025, and finished 7th overall out of 200+ cars and this was the fastest 2wd car. In-car videos from each course:

- Mostly stock 13b, no porting but the oil injection is removed so it runs premix.
- 5-lug conversion on all 4 corners, with 4 piston front calipers
- gutted doors, gutted interior, gutted everything for weight reduction
- de-powered power steering rack with an electric assist column from epowersteering.com
- Flatout GR40 coilovers with a dual rate spring setup
- Corksport aluminum radiator, and a custom aluminum skid plate to protect it
- Aluminum sunroof delete panel with a vent
- 4mm hard-coated lexan windows from Plastics4Performance
- Sparco Evo2 race seat on sliders
- uninstalled spare parts include headlights and a lightweight plastic rear hatch

Car is in Lake Stevens WA but I live in Alaska, so some coordination will be needed to come look at it. Available at or after SCCA RallyCross Nationals October 16-18.
