1974 BMW 2002 Rally



The car has had a full mechanical upgrade, incl. Weber carbs rebuilt, clutch, short shift, electrical, Momo steering wheel, engine
mounts, fuel pump, new windshield etc.



Engine:

Weber 40DCOE 115 rebuild kits installed

New O rings (8) at carb isolators (#226).

Carb's synced

Ignition timing advance confirmed at 25 deg BTDC

Warm compression test, 170+-1 psi all cylinders

Adjusted throttle linkage for full throttle

Flushed coolant

New fuel pump, delivers good flow at 2 psi (target range 2 to 3.5 psi, old pump was at 5 psi causing rear carb to drip after
shutdown)

- Inspected spark plugs, as new NGK BPREGP (Iridium)

Float level (plastic floats) 14mm at end from gasket



Brakes:

Flushed brake fluid (DOT4)

- Inspected wear; front pads 90%, rear shoes 70%

- Adjusted E brake

Tires/Steering/Suspension:

Tire pressures set to 32 psi

Checked tie rod ends and cross link (look new)

- Checked front and rear drop-link and swaybar bushings (minor ageing)

- Checked front and rear control arm bushings (minor ageing)

Front and rear wheel bearings good

Transmission and Driveline

Transmission oil change (1.5 liters Redline MTLGL4)

Differential oil change 1 liter 75W-90 Synthetic GL5

-Inspected CV boots, older but OK

- Installed Ireland Engineering short shift kit (did not come with lower plastic ball cup so used shortened (.030") existing lower
cup, ground circlip thinner)

- Inspected center support bearing, OK

- Differential is Open (vs LSD)

Electrical/Lighting:

- Charging voltage 13.2V

- Checked all lighting inc reverse lights

- Installed new fused power supply to fuel pump (fuse is labeled, located on driver side left kick panel)

- Installed new ground wire to flasher relay

- Repaired existing flasher relay

Installed updated flasher relay 914 618 303 11

Wired Hella fog lights, installed toggle switch at console (fuse is labeled, located near battery.



The 2002 runs excellent, 4 spd manual, very quick and light. The car was a rally car, 25 + yrs ago and brought back to street
legal. Everything works, lots of spare parts included.
