1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe G50
Bespoke Safari / Rally Build | 3.2L Air-Cooled Flat-Six | Re-Geared G50 | Limited-Slip Differential
128,000 Miles | Offered at $149,999

AutoMeister Gruppe is proud to offer one of the most distinctive air-cooled 911s we have had the opportunity to represent: this extensively developed 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, transformed into a highly detailed, professionally executed Safari-style build.

Finished in black with carefully selected orange accents, this is not simply a Carrera fitted with all-terrain tires and auxiliary lights. The car was developed as a cohesive rally-inspired 911, incorporating upgraded suspension, revised transmission gearing, a limited-slip differential, underbody protection, an integrated winch, rally lighting, custom bodywork and a beautifully finished interior.

Most recently, the current owner added a Rennline CNC-machined Vintage Roof Rack, providing the final visual element to an already striking build.

The result is a wonderfully unconventional air-cooled Porsche; one that retains the analog experience of the classic Carrera 3.2 while possessing an entirely different presence and personality.

THE RIGHT FOUNDATION: CARRERA 3.2 + G50
At the heart of the build is one of the most desirable combinations of the G-body era: Porsche's naturally aspirated 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six paired with the G50 five-speed manual transaxle.

The Bosch Motronic-equipped 3.2-liter flat-six was rated at approximately 217 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque when new.

For this build, the G50 was reportedly fitted with revised gearing and a limited-slip differential, creating a more purposeful driving experience particularly well suited to the Safari concept.

The car currently shows approximately 128,000 miles.

PURPOSE-BUILT SAFARI SUSPENSION
The Safari conversion extends well beyond appearance.

The chassis has been developed using components from respected Porsche performance suppliers, including:

Motion Control Suspension dampers

22mm front torsion bars

29mm rear torsion bars

Elephant Racing suspension bushings

16-inch Fuchs-style wheels

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires

Matching full-size spare

Four-wheel disc brakes

The resulting stance gives the Carrera unmistakable rally presence while retaining the compact proportions and classic silhouette of the G-body 911.

PROFESSIONALLY EXECUTED EXTERIOR
The exterior is where the level of detail in this build becomes immediately apparent.

The black bodywork is contrasted by orange-centered wheels and matching orange exterior mirror caps, while Carrera graphics extend along the lower body. A custom-fitted fiberglass ducktail completes the rear profile.

Up front, an integrated winch is incorporated directly into the modified front bumper, accompanied by substantial underbody protection.

Above it sits a roof-mounted auxiliary driving-light pod, giving the car the unmistakable appearance of a period rally machine.

Additional details include integrated fog lamps, the factory power sunroof and carefully integrated exterior modifications that make the car appear designed as a complete package rather than assembled from a catalog of accessories.

GLASS-OUT PAINT & BODYWORK BY SV BODY & PAINT
The quality of the underlying execution is especially important on a modified air-cooled Porsche.

In 2023, extensive body and finishing work was performed by SV Body & Paint of El Cajon, California.

The work included a glass-out repaint utilizing PPG materials, along with replacement of the front bumper, lower front valance and right-front fender.

SV also performed much of the fabrication and detail work responsible for the finished appearance of the car, including:

Modification of the front bumper to accommodate the integrated winch

Custom fitting of the fiberglass ducktail

Painting the orange exterior accents

Installation of the Carrera graphics

Replacement window weatherstripping and moldings

Exterior ceramic coating

SV is an established Southern California collision, paint and restoration facility with documented experience working on vintage and performance Porsches, including extensive glass-out and bare-metal Porsche refinishing projects.

RENNLINE CNC-MACHINED VINTAGE ROOF RACK
Following the car's previous sale, its current owner added a particularly fitting finishing touch: a Rennline Vintage Roof Rack.

Designed specifically for classic Porsche 911 architecture, the Rennline rack is constructed from CNC-machined 6061 aluminum, including 5-axis CNC-machined mounting feet.

Rather than conventional metal crossbars, the rack incorporates curved oak slats finished in clear lacquer, following the contour of the Porsche's roof and giving the assembly a distinctly vintage appearance.

The rack measures approximately 41 inches wide by 29 inches long and was engineered to mount securely without detracting from the classic 911 roofline.

It is an expensive and beautifully engineered detail, but more importantly, it looks at home on this particular car.

CUSTOM RALLY-INSPIRED INTERIOR
The interior continues the theme while preserving the simplicity that makes an air-cooled Carrera so engaging.

Factory Porsche Sport seats are upholstered in black leather with patterned center inserts, complemented by square-weave carpeting.

A three-spoke MOMO steering wheel with yellow centering stripe sits ahead of traditional Porsche VDO instrumentation, while the central tachometer has been refinished in orange to subtly connect the cockpit with the exterior details.

Equipment includes:

Porsche Sport seats

Black leather with patterned seat inserts

Square-weave carpeting

MOMO three-spoke steering wheel

Orange central tachometer

Pioneer audio system

Aftermarket speakers

Air conditioning (ice cold)

Cruise control

Power windows

Power-operated sunroof

DOCUMENTED HISTORY
Before its transformation, the car appeared on Bring a Trailer in December 2020, when it remained much closer to its original
