2004 Mazdaspeed Miata Built Turbo ~220 WHP AFCO / Wilwood / Hard Dog

114,341 miles | $14,500 OBO

If you're looking for a completely stock collector Mazdaspeed Miata, this probably isn't the one.

If you're looking for a properly built, well-developed Mazdaspeed that is ready for HPDE, autocross, canyon driving or a fun weekend car, keep reading.

This is a genuine 2004 Mazda Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata, factory turbocharged from Mazda, that has had substantial engine, suspension, braking and cooling upgrades.

A lot of money has already been spent developing the car, with the focus on making usable, reliable power rather than chasing a huge dyno number.

 ENGINE / TURBO

 Built 1.8L turbo engine
 Lower-compression performance pistons
 Custom connecting rods
Modified factory turbo system for increased boost
Approximately 220 horsepower at the rear wheels on a load-bearing dyno
 Aftermarket engine management/tuning
 Recently professionally tuned
Currently tuned to run on ethanol/E85
 Cooling-system reroute
 Thermostat relocation
 Upgraded cooling system
Hood vents added for improved heat management

The car was intentionally kept around the 220-RWHP range rather than pushing toward 250+ horsepower, where drivetrain reliability can start becoming an issue.

 SUSPENSION / CHASSIS

 AFCO adjustable coilovers
 Adjustable compression
 Adjustable rebound
 Track-developed suspension setup
 Hard Dog roll bar
 Power steering retained

This isn't just a lowered Miata on inexpensive coilovers. The suspension has significant adjustability and was set up with track use in mind.

 BRAKES

 Wilwood 4-piston front calipers
 Two-piece front rotor setup
 Upgraded/slotted rear rotors
 Performance rear brake pads

The braking system was upgraded to handle repeated track use rather than just street driving.

 WHEELS / TIRES / EXTRAS

The car comes with considerably more than what's currently installed:

 Lightweight aftermarket track wheels
 Factory Mazdaspeed wheels included
 Factory seats included
 Performance seats currently installed
 Factory steering wheel
Additional original parts and miscellaneous track-related items

The current track tires are older and should be considered ready for replacement if you plan to use the car aggressively.

 CONDITION

114,341 original chassis miles.

The engine has been rebuilt/upgraded as described above.

The body itself is solid and the car has spent much of its later life garaged.

Cosmetically, I'm not going to pretend it's a garage-queen Miata. It has been used for what it was built to do.

The paint shows its age, particularly on some of the horizontal surfaces and hood. If you wanted the car cosmetically perfect, I would plan on paint work or wrapping it.

 Soft top is functional
 Glass rear window
 Hard Dog roll bar
 Recently installed battery
 A/C is currently not working

 IMPORTANT E85

The car is currently tuned for ethanol/E85.

Do not simply fill it with regular pump gasoline with the current tune.

If a new owner wanted to convert it back to gasoline, it can be retuned appropriately.

WHY THIS CAR?

What makes this car interesting isn't any single modification.

It's the combination of:

 Built turbo engine
 ~220 RWHP
 AFCO adjustable suspension
 Wilwood brakes
 Hard Dog roll bar
 Cooling-system upgrades
 Track-developed setup
 Extra wheels and factory parts

Building another Mazdaspeed Miata to this level would take a considerable amount of time and money.

Someone has already done that work here.

This would make a great HPDE, autocross, time-attack, canyon or weekend enthusiast car for someone who wants a properly developed NB Mazdaspeed without starting from scratch.
